In Class Activity A
Using your drafts, in groups of three, read through your introductions. Decide which of the three most effectively does the work of an introduction as specified above.
Now look at the thesis—does it effectively convey the argument and roadmap of the essay? If it doesn’t, perhaps a parallel structure would help in its rewriting.
In Class Activity B
Read these introductions, most of which have been written for a second-year CEGEP or first year University course. All of these have been used with permission; some of them have been modified.
As a group, decide which is best, which is worst, and above all, why? Rewrite the thesis statements for worst two.
